Meet Jenn Joy
I am so happy to (virtually) meet you. Reiki has transformed my life in a myriad of positive ways and I cannot wait to share the incredible gift of Reiki with you. This page gives a glimpse into my Reiki journey and provides a description of my training and qualifications. Do not hesitate to contact me with any questions you may have about Reiki. My contact information can be found here.
My First Experiences with Reiki
Like most Americans, I came to Reiki as a skeptic.
In the mid-’90’s I was in architecture school. I suffered from terrible sinus infections. I saw doctors and specialists and tried numerous therapies, none of which could relieve the pressure around my eyes and the congestion in my head. I had given in to ‘just living with it’ along with a regimen of decongestants and migraine meds. An acquaintance was learning Reiki and asked if she could practice on me. I figured, “What could it hurt?”. After a mere 45 minutes on her table, I sat up and took a deep breath through my suddenly clear nasal passages. I could breathe easily for the first time in months! The agony of pressure around my eyes was gone. It was incredible! But I, always the skeptic…I wrote it off as “coincidence”. “Do you have to believe in Reiki in order for it to help?” Obviously not.
Shortly after that experience, my sister was attuned to Reiki. She asked if she could practice on me. Of course she could; I would do anything for my sister. I’m embarrassed to admit that my skepticism was even greater this time. I did not believe that my little sister could possibly be able to “channel energy” and “balance my energy field”. However, that night, as Amanda worked above my third eye, I could feel the energy. It was intense and very hot. My eyes were closed and the energy was so strong that I thought Amanda’s hands were inches away from my eyelids. This was stronger than anything I had felt during my previous experience. I opened my eyes and was shocked to discover that she was standing above me with her hands several feet away from my head. “Your energy is so strong I wanted to see how far away I could get,” she said.
By the end of the session, Amanda said that my energy was rebalanced throughout my energy field. The strong build-up of energy near my eyes was gone and so was my congestion. I felt a sense of calm and peace that I had rarely experienced previously. The most amazing thing about it was how it stayed with me. I felt the effects for several days after the session. There was no denying this experience and yet, I still couldn’t quite believe it. In spite of my skepticism, I had Reiki sessions whenever it was possible. I began to notice patterns of health following the sessions. My sinus infections decreased and my migraines became a rare occurrence. My spirit was refreshed. My emotions were more stable. Day to day life became more manageable. A positive correlation between the Reiki sessions and improvements in my physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing became hard to dismiss. Results are the best antidote to skepticism. Now that I believed, I needed to learn everything I could about this Reiki thing!
My sister, Amanda Wilson, went on to become a Reiki Master Teacher, Licensed Massage Therapist and Massage Educator. How fortuitous that I had a teacher of this amazing new skill I wanted to learn right in my own family! I completed Levels I & II in 2008 with Amanda through Lotus Inspired, LLC, my sister company. (I say “my sister company” with great pride both because one of the founders is my actual sister and because Lotus Inspired, LLC and Jenn Joy Reiki are affiliated.)
I then went on to study with John Harvey Gray and his loving wife and successor, Dr. Lourdes Gray. John was one of the original 22 masters in the United States, trained by Mrs. Hawayo Takata. Mrs. Takata was the first Master Teacher to bring Reiki to the U.S. from Japan. I was blessed to be in John’s final master class and am honored to carry on the lineage. I graduated from the Reiki Master training at the John Harvey Gray Center for Reiki Healing in December 2010.
In 2013, I finished the 100-hour Reiki Practicum at Brigham & Women’s Hospital with a focus in oncology. I completed the majority of the hours on a ward within the Dana Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center and I continue to volunteer there once a week. While my focus has been with oncology patients, I also handle referrals throughout the hospital on an as-needed basis.
I am a member of the International Association of Reiki Professionals (IARP) and abide by the IARP Code of Ethics. I am fully insured.
My Personal Statement
I believe that we are all one and that we are all connected by a divine energy of pure, unconditional love. Reiki is a balancing vibration; this balance inspires transformation and evolution, much like pure – truly unconditional – love. I believe that the root of all that is wrong in this world comes from insecurity and fear. Our insecurities cause us to make decisions and utilize behaviors that are not in the interest of the highest, most loving, good. Therefore, it is my mission to use Reiki to spread unconditional love and compassion to all that I meet. We must join together to create a widespread phenomena of health and wellbeing so that we may ultimately become a love-driven community in solidarity with one another.
“When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace.” – Jimi Hendrix
